Applying for a Visa at the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima

 

Due to the high demand of visa applications, the Royal Thai Embassy has established a new standard operation procedure for those who wish to apply for a Thai visa in Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, starting from 12 September 2022. There are two ways to apply for a visa, either in-person or by post. For those who choose to apply in-person, they should prepare all required documents for each visa type/category and make an appointment with the Embassy.

Upon submission, the Embassy’s staff will review each application and provide further recommendations if needed. For those who choose to apply by post, they must apply through an eligible visa processing service company in their respective country of residence. Contact details for each processing service company can be found on the Embassy’s website.

It is important to note that applicants who apply by post are highly recommended to start the visa application process at least one month ahead of their departure. See also the Visa on arrival in Thailand.

Thai electronic passports

 

Thai nationals residing and working in Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Those who wish to obtain a new passport can submit a request to the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima in the following cases. Firstly if your passport has expired, if the passport validity is less than 6 months. Secondly if the passport is damaged, missing, or lost. Thirdly if there is a change in name or surname.

In order to apply for a new passport. The main supporting documents needed are the application form (which can be downloaded from the embassy’s website), the original passport or a copy, a document showing residency in one of the aforementioned countries, an ID card/house registration that displays the petitioner’s 13-digit ID number. Additionally copies of any relevant certificates (such as name and surname change, marriage or divorce certificates).

The passport issuance fee is 40 USD. In the case of a lost passport, a Certificate of Loss issued by the local police station must be provided. It is important to note that the applicant must come in person to the embassy to have their biometric data collected and to sign important documents. The passport issuance fee takes approximately four weeks since the request and information must be sent back to Thailand for the production of the book. Payment of fees must be made in cash at the embassy only.

 

 

Temporary Thai Passport

 

If the passport is expired or lost and there is an urgent need to travel, the embassy can issue a temporary passport valid for 1 year. However, the temporary passport will be cancelled upon receipt of a new passport.

To apply for a new temporary passport, the following supporting documents are required: an application form that can be downloaded from the website, an original passport or copy, a copy of the Thai ID card or house registration, and 2 color photographs (size 3.5 x 4.5 cm) with a white background taken within 6 months. In addition, a copy of the boarding pass or flight reservation is also necessary.

If the passport is lost, additional documents, such as a notice issued by the local police station and an investigation record, are required.

The fee for issuing a temporary passport is 10.- USD and payable at the embassy in cash only.

 

 

Renew Thai ID card

.

If you are a Thai national residing in Peru and previously had an identity card, you can apply for a new ID card at the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima in the following situations: when the old card is expired, lost, or damaged. To apply, you will need to provide the following documents: the legalization petition form, passport, document indicating residency in one of the eligible countries, original ID card (if available), and a copy of a name/surname change certificate (if applicable). If the card is lost, you will also need to present a police report issued by the local police station.

It is important to note that an ID card can be requested at any time if it has expired. However, only those who have previously had an ID card can apply for a new one at the embassy. First-time applicants can only apply for an ID card in Thailand. Also, applicants must visit the embassy in person to take pictures and provide fingerprints.

The fee for the ID card is 3.- US dollars, and the card can be received immediately after the application.

 

 

Marriage Registration

 

Thai nationals who hold a residence permit in the Republic of Peru and want to register their marriage with a foreigner who also has a residence certificate in the Republic of Peru can apply for marriage registration under Thai law at the embassy. To do so, the following documents need to be submitted:

  • Legalization petition form Form 4, which can be downloaded from the website
  • Furthermore the passport of the spouse
  • Residence visa for both spouses
  • Additionally your Thai ID card of the Thai spouse (if applicable)
  • Copy of Thai house registration of the Thai spouse (if applicable)
  • Certificate of celibacy, not older than 3 months

Furthermore for a Thai person, the petitioner can obtain a certificate of celibacy from the district office or district office according to the house registration. The certificate must be stamped to certify the document at the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before being used at the embassy.

Foreigners

For a foreigner, the applicant needs to request a certificate of singleness (in English) from the embassy of Peru or a government agency in the Republic of Peru. The certificate must be stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru before being used at the embassy.

In the case of a previous divorce, a copy of the divorce certificate or divorce judgment needs to be submitted. Divorce registration must be divorced for more than 310 days in order to be able to remarry, unless the child has been delivered during that time, married to the ex-spouse, there is a medical certificate showing that she is not pregnant, or there is a court order authorizing the marriage.

Furthermore if the spouse has passed away, a copy of the death certificate must be submitted as well. There is no fee for this service, and applicants can wait to receive the marriage certificate.

Thai Birth Certificate 

 

If you wish to apply for Thai nationality and a Thai birth certificate for your child, you can submit a request to report the child’s birth at the embassy. To do so, you need to prepare the following documents:

  • Firstly a Legalization Petition Form 3, which can be downloaded from the website
  • Likewise passports of the father and mother
  • Additionally a residence visas for both parents
  • Furthermore identification cards of the father and mother (for Thai nationals)
  • Copies of the house registration of the father and mother (for Thai nationals)
  • In addition Name or surname change certificate (if applicable, for either parent)
  • Finally a marriage certificate of the parents

Note: If the marriage certificate was issued under laws other than Thai law, it must be certified by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, translated into English, and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

  • In addition the official local birth certificate (certified by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), translated into English, and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.
  • Additionally three birth certificates (with a white background, passport or Carnet size). This service is free of charge, and you can wait to receive the birth certificate.

In the case of parents who are not married:

 

Additional documents required:

 

  • Likewise a maternal affidavit form (can be filled out at the embassy)
  • If the child wants to use the father’s surname, there must be a record of the mother’s interrogation and a record of the father’s interrogation (can be filled out at the embassy).
  • Additionally a copy of the child custody certificate or Por Kor 14 (in case the father of the child cannot be contacted).

In the case of parents who have been divorced:

Additional documents required:

  • Likewise a copy of the parent’s divorce certificate.
  • In addition a copy of the divorce record stating the custody of the child (in the case of a divorce registered in Thailand).
  • Additionally a copy of the child custody certificate or Por Kor 14 (in case of divorce registration abroad).
