Thai Passport

The Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul has implemented a new online registration system for reserving queues in advance to apply for passports since August 2020. This system is mandatory for all applicants. Likewise including those with or without visas, and those with dual citizenship, except for minors under 20 years old. It is not possible to make an appointment via email.

Those who have already registered for electronic passports through the old system and are still pending queue allocation do not need to re-register in the new system. They can check their registration result by entering their identification number correctly. Likewise without specifying the date of birth. To check the queue order and appointment date for passport application, applicants can visit https://rteseoul-q.consular.go.th.

For applicants under 20 years old with a long-term resident visa/Korean nationality or other nationality, they need to contact passport.sel@mfa.go.th with details.

In the case of a lost passport or no original passport. Likewise applicants need to prepare a valid Thai ID card (original), a current passport copy, a Gama Card/Alien Card (original or copy). Additionally a report from the Korean Police Station (original) stating their full name and date of birth in English. If the passport is lost due to fire, fire notification documents from the Korean authorities translated into English and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea (original) are required. Likewise the English Lost Passport Report from the Korean Police Station (original) can be used instead.

New Passport

Likewise the new passport system has iris scanning. Additionally applicants are requested not to wear colored or fashion contact lenses. The embassy is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The passport fees are as follows: 45,000 won for a passport valid for 5 years, and 67,500 won for a passport valid for 10 years. If the passport is received by mail. Likewise an additional postage fee of 3,800 won applies. However, the shipping costs are subject to change and depend on Korean postage. It is possible to make a new passport without penalty in the case of an expired passport. Thai ID card

Starting from January 3, 2023. The Royal Thai Embassy will provide service only to those who reserve the queue in advance online. Those who have been allocated a queue to make a passport. Likewise reserve a queue to make a birth certificate can come in and make an ID card on the same day without having to make a reservation. Therefore, it is recommended to register to reserve the queue in advance online at https://rteseoul-q.consular.go.th. After registration, it is essential to check the appointment date via registered email or at https://rteseoul-q.consular.go.th.

However, in case of registering to reserve the queue again. Likewise only the last queue reservation is considered successful. The Embassy will cancel the previous registration. Moving on to the ID card making process, if the national ID card is expired. Then the applicant can bring the real identity card and passport. If the national ID card is over 60 days old, it cannot be renewed, and there will be no fees and no fines.

In the case of a lost identity card, the applicant needs to bring a passport copy (if available) and a copy of the ID card (if any). If there is no such document, a copy of the driver’s license or a copy of the house registration can be submitted instead. However, there is a fee of 5,000 won (cash only).

 

 

Registration of birth

1. In the case of both parents of Thai nationality

 

Starting from January 3, 2023. The Royal Thai Embassy will only provide services to those who reserve the queue in advance online, as stated on https://rteseoul-q.consular.go.th. After registering, applicants should check their appointment date through the registered email or the website.

For Thai children born in South Korea. Their birth registration and issuance of birth certificates can be done at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul. However, fathers and/or mothers who are of Thai nationality must apply for birth registration in person at the Embassy. For marriage registration, the Thai nationality father or mother can come alone. Once the petition is submitted, it will take 7-10 days to process. The Thai parent must come to the embassy to inspect and sign for the birth certificate in person.

Documents Needed

The documentation required for birth registration includes a copy of identity cards of father and mother. Additionally the passports of both parents, house registration copies of father and mother. Also a copy of the house registration of the host who wants to add the child’s name, a copy of marriage certificate/marriage registration certificate/divorce certificate (if any). Also a copy of certificate of name/surname change/, and an original birth certificate in English from the hospital or clinic where the birth was performed.

The birth certificate must be certified (Yong Sa Huak In) from the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the document certifying should not be more than 3 months old from the date of certifying one document. It is important that the parents’ English names and surnames are the same as those on their passports. Likewise the child’s English name must have the correct spelling and pronunciation of the name in Thai.

Childs Name

The child’s name should use a Thai name and the mother’s surname should be used if the parents are not registered for marriage. If the marriage has been registered, the surname of the father or mother may be used. In the case of an illegitimate child of the mother, the child must use the mother’s premarital surname. If the father’s name is not specified in the birth certificate or the parents wish the illegitimate child to use the father’s surname, an interrogation must be recorded by bringing 1 Thai witness for additional questioning.

In case of giving birth at home and there is no proof of birth from the hospital, applicants must attach evidence of genetic material (DNA) testing between parents and children. The examination results must be requested in English and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, along with attaching evidence of postpartum treatment, such as receipts for medical expenses, etc. On the day of coming in to report the birth, applicants should bring at least 2 Thai witnesses who know of the incident of the birth at home to come for interrogation. The witness must attach a copy of their Thai identity card and a passport each.

 

2. In case of mother of Thai nationality South Korean father

To register a child’s birth, several documents are required. Firstly, a copy of the mother’s ID card is needed, as well as a copy of the father’s South Korean identity card, which cannot be a driver’s license. Additionally, one copy of both parents’ passports is required, as well as a copy of the child’s South Korean passport, if applicable.

The mother’s Thai house registration and the South Korean household registration in English version (Yong Moon Ju Min Thung Nok Tung Bon) are also necessary, with an original copy required for the latter. A copy of the house registration of the host who wants to add the child’s name is also required. Additionally along with a copy of the Thai Marriage Certificate/Family Status Record (Kor. 22)/Divorce Certificate (if any). Furthermore, a copy of the South Korean Family Registration in English version (Young Moon Kha Jok Kwan Gae Jeung Myung Seo) and a copy of the name/surname change certificate (if any) are also needed.

Finally, an original birth certificate in English from the hospital or clinic where the birth was performed is required. Likewise which must be certified (Yong Sa Huak In) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea and dated no more than 3 months from the date of notarization of 1 document.

Illegitimate child

There are some important points to keep in mind when completing the birth registration process. For example, the parents’ English names and surnames must match those on their passports. Additionally the child’s English name must be spelled and pronounced correctly in Thai. The child will use either Thai or Korean names. Likewise depending on whether they already have South Korean citizenship. If the child was born before the marriage registration and has not acquired South Korean nationality. Then they will use the Thai name and the mother’s surname. Additionally, if the child is an illegitimate child of the mother. That is, the mother has not yet registered for divorce and is not married to the father. Then the child must use the mother’s premarital surname. Finally, it’s worth noting that the birth registration application form (birth certificate) can be obtained at the embassy.

 

3. Thai mother Other nationality father (Non-Korean nationality)

 

To register a child’s birth, the following documents are required:

Firstly, a copy of the mother’s ID card is needed. Secondly, a copy of the father’s identity card from his country is necessary. Additionally, if the father has an Alien Registration Card, one copy should be included.

Moreover, one copy of both parents’ passports is required, along with a copy of the child’s passport, if available.

It is also necessary to include a copy of the mother’s Thai house registration and a copy of the father’s English house registration. If the father’s house registration is not in English, it must be translated into English and certified by the embassy of that country in South Korea.

Furthermore, one copy of the house registration of the host who wants to add the child’s name is required, as well as a copy of the marriage certificate/family status record/divorce registration, if applicable.

A copy of the name/surname change certificate is also needed, if applicable.

An original birth certificate in English from the hospital or clinic where the birth was performed is necessary. This document must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea and dated not more than 3 months from the date of notarization of 1 document.

Childs name

There are certain rules to follow regarding the names of parents and the child. The parents’ English names and surnames must be the same as those on their passports. Additionally, the child’s English name spelling should match the pronunciation of the name in Thai.

Children will use Thai names or the name according to the nationality of the father if they already have another nationality. In case the child was born before the marriage registration and has not acquired the nationality of the father, they should use the Thai name and the mother’s surname.

Lastly, the birth registration application form (birth certificate) can be obtained at the embassy.

 

 

Emergency Travel Document

 

If your passport has expired, the following documents will be required:

  • Air ticket indicating the departure date to Thailand (E-Ticket)
  • Original identity card
  • Original passport

On the other hand, if you have lost your passport, the following documents will be required:

  • Air ticket indicating the departure date to Thailand (E-Ticket)
  • Original identity card
  • Copy of the passport
  • In case of staying less than 90 days, a statement in English or Korean is necessary.
