Birth Registration

Even if parents are not married, it is the right and duty of mothers to notify the birth of their children. The required documents for Thai nationality father and mother are as follows:

  1. Request for Legalization: This form can be obtained at the Consulate General or downloaded from the Petition form.
  2. Record of the mother’s testimony: This form can be obtained at the Consulate General or downloaded from the Request form.
  3. Request for birth registration: This form can be obtained at the Consulate General or downloaded from the Application form.
  4. Original passport of both parents, along with one copy.
  5. Original identification card or yellow card with a photo, or a certificate of a person with a photo or a stub requesting an ID card, endorsed by the district. Include one set of copies of the front and back.
  6. Original Thai house registration, or a version with a stamp of approval from the district. Alternatively, the original certified civil registration form with one copy.
  7. One color photograph showing the father, mother, and child together, or in the absence of the father, two photographs of the mother and child. There is no size limit, but the faces should be clearly visible.
  8. Thai marriage certificate with a copy, if the parents are married. Include one set of copies.
  9. Child certificate if the father is certifying the child, along with one copy.

 

In Addition

In addition, the child’s identity document includes the original birth certificate issued by the hospital, along with one copy, which must be presented to the Notary Public in the document certifying area.

For parents who are of Chinese or other nationalities, they need to provide their passport or driving license along with one copy. The entire process takes approximately one hour to complete.

Thai ID card

When it comes to requesting a new card, such as when the old card has expired or when the original card is lost or destroyed, or in the case of requesting to change the card due to significant damage to the photo or identification of the card owner, or changes in name and surname, the following procedures should be followed:

For individuals who have never submitted an application for a card and wish to obtain one for the first time, it is important to note that the application cannot be made abroad. To apply for a card, one must come to Thailand and complete the process within the country.

Documents Needed
  1. One copy of the original ID card.
  2. Likewise one copy of the Thai passport.
  3. One copy of the house registration document displaying the name and the 13-digit identification number, if available.
Guidelines
  • Individuals who have never had an ID card and wish to obtain one for the first time must do so in Thailand only.
  • For individuals whose names are listed in the central household registration, it is necessary to contact the relevant registry office in Thailand to initiate the name transfer process from the central house registration. This can be done either manually or by a person authorized to do so.
  • In the case of a name change, evidence of the name change is required, depending on the specific circumstances.
  • Applicants must be residents of Xi’an.
  • Applicants must personally visit the Consulate-General, as photographs and fingerprints need to be collected.
  • The officer handling the application may request additional documents and evidence if deemed necessary.
  • The officer has the right to refuse issuing a card if it is found that the applicant’s appearance does not match the information in the database of the Department of Provincial Administration or if the applicant is unable to provide credible evidence for identification purposes.

When preparing the necessary evidence and supporting documents for passport applications, the following items should be considered:

  1. One set of passport application forms, which can be obtained at the Consulate General or downloaded from the official website.
  2. A copy of the passport, if available.
  3. A copy of the national ID card.
  4. A copy of the house registration document.
  5. A copy of the name change certificate, if applicable, in case the name does not match the evidence provided. One set of copies is required.
  6. A copy of the marriage/divorce certificate, if applicable. One set of copies is required.

In the case of a lost passport, additional documents are necessary, including: 7. A report from the police station in the area where the passport was lost.

The completion of the passport application process typically takes around 8 to 9 weeks from the date of fee payment. It is important to note the following:

  • Passports are valid for 5 years and cannot be edited or altered once issued.
  • The applicant must submit the application in person at the Consulate General to ensure accurate recording of the biological data in the computer system.
  • If the information in the original passport does not match the details in the house registration, such as surname or date of birth, it is necessary to apply for correction of the information in the house registration at a district office in Thailand before applying for a new passport.
Passport and Work Permit

In the event that a lost passport contains a work permit and a residence permit in China, the following steps should be taken in coordination with the local immigration office:

  1. Publish the loss of the passport in a local Chinese newspaper and obtain a report and articles as proof.
  2. Obtain a Confirmation of Reporting the Loss of Passport from the Immigration Office, which will be valid for 30 days. This document must be submitted to the Consulate General for the preparation of a new passport.
  3. Contact the Consulate-General immediately if a new Residence Permit is needed. The new passport, along with the Confirmation of Reporting the Loss of Passport, will be used to apply for a new Residence Permit issuance. The Immigration Office will issue the Residence Permit based on the remaining period of the original permit. It is important to check with the Immigration Office for accurate procedures, as they may be subject to change.

  1. One set of C.I. request forms, which can be obtained at the Consulate General.

  5. Two color photographs, sized 1 inch, taken within the last 6 months, with a straight face and no hat or sunglasses.

Marriage Registration (Thai)

When applying for marriage registration at the Consulate General, it is required that both parties intending to marry submit a petition in person. This is because the spouses need to sign the documents in the presence of the registrar and two witnesses. It is important to note that the applicant for marriage registration must be an adult. In the case of a minor, a parental consent letter must be presented to the registrar. The following documents must be prepared for both parties:

  2. Investigation record: Obtain this form at the Consulate General or download it from the Petition form.
  3. Petition for marriage registration: This form can be obtained at the Consulate General or downloaded from the Petition form.
  4. Original identification card, yellow card with a photo, or any other identification document with a photo, along with a copy of the front and back. Additionally the document should be accompanied by a seal of approval from the district or an identification document issued by the Department of Provincial Administration.
  5. Original Thai house registration document or a certified version with a stamp from the district, along with one copy. In addition the certified copy from the district should be issued within three months from the submission date.
  6. Original passport with a copy of the photo page, passport renewal page, and surname change page. Likewise if a visa is present, please bring a copy of the visa page as well.
  7. Single certificate issued by the Thai district within the last three months. Likewise this certificate must be certified by the Nationality and Legal Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Additionally in the case of previous marriage and divorce, a certificate from the district (issued within the past three months) stating that the person has not remarried after the divorce is required. Note:

  • According to the new Surname Act, when married, women and men have the following options regarding their surnames:
  • Both parties retain their maiden surnames.
  • In addition women use their husband’s surname.
  • Likewise women use their husband’s surname, and the man uses his wife’s surname. Please note that under Thai law, if a woman changes her surname after marriage, her title should also change from “Ms.” to “Mrs.”

When applying for a marriage certificate between a Thai and Chinese individual, it is necessary for the applicants to personally submit an application at the Consulate General. This is because both spouses need to sign in front of the registrar and two witnesses. The required documents for each party are as follows:

  3. Original identification card, yellow card with a photo, or any other identification document with a photo. Include a copy of the front and back of the document. Likewise ensure that it has a seal of approval from the district or an identification document issued by the Department of Provincial Administration.
  4. Original Thai house registration document or a certified version with a seal from the Amphoe. Include one copy of the document. Additionally the certified copy from the Amphoe should be issued within three months from the submission date.
  5. Original passport, along with a copy of the photo page, passport renewal page, and surname change page. If a visa is present, provide one copy of the visa page.
  6. Certificate of celibacy issued by a Thai district within the last three months. This certificate must be certified by the Division of Nationality and Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. In the case of previous marriage and divorce, a certificate from the district (issued within the past three months) stating that the person has not remarried after the divorce is required. This certificate must also be certified by the Nationality and Legal Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
  7. In addition in the case of a Thai woman who was previously married, bring the original divorce certificate or the Divorced family status registration, along with one copy.

Tourist Visa TR

Ordinary passport holders who wish to enter the Kingdom for various purposes are required to obtain a Tourist visa. The following purposes qualify for a Tourist visa:

  1. Tourism
  2. Short visits to family living in Thailand
  3. Medical treatment with registered hospitals
  4. Participation in MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Convention & Exhibitions) events supported by TCEB

To apply for a Tourist visa, the following documents are required (Embassy/Consulate reserves the right to request additional documents as necessary):

  • Likewise your passport or travel document with a validity of at least 6 months.
  • In addition a recent photograph of the applicant taken within the past six months.
  • Note the evidence of travel from Thailand, such as a fully paid air ticket.
  • Proof of adequate finances, with a minimum of 10,000 CNY per person.
  • Finally proof of accommodation in Thailand, such as accommodation bookings or invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand.

In addition the validity of a Tourist visa is either 3 months or 6 months, depending on the circumstances. Upon arrival in Thailand, travelers with this type of visa are allowed to stay for a period not exceeding 60 days.

Note that if individuals wish to extend their stay or change their visa type, they must apply for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau in Bangkok. The extension of stay or change of visa type is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer.

Finally it is advisable for visa applicants to submit their applications at least 15 working days before their intended travel date to Thailand. This allows sufficient processing time.
